So there are races and then there are races. Well I found myself a new race…one that I will run….don’t know when but I will do this! The Antarctic Marathon.
Runners are faced with the daunting challenge of running 26.2 miles only a few hundred miles from the south pole in the Ellsworth Mountains. The next race takes place on November 12, 2012. Run at an altitude of 700 meters and facing bitter wind chills this marathon is more about survival than speed.
The 5 day itinerary has competitors fly by private jet from Punta Arenas, Chile to the marathon location at Union Glacier. This is the southern most marathon run in the world.
