It is that time of year again when we all start thinking about New Years Resolutions.  No one ever talks about New Years Goals though.  You can’t have one without the other.

A resolution by definition is a course of action determined or decided on.

A goal is the result or achievement toward which effort is directed.

You need to have both.  This message is for everyone, whether you are one of my clients or not.  Think about your goals first.  What do you want to achieve over the next year and beyond.  Short term goals over the next month or two or three and then long term goals for the rest of the year.  Most people set about to achieve something, yet they have no plan or timeline  to achieve it nor the means by which to begin.  Your goals also need to be constantly reevaluated.  Once you have figured out what your goals are, now it is time to make the resolution.  What is your course of action going to be?  How are you going to get to the achievement?

What I would like everyone to do is sit down over the next several days and figure out what your short term goals and your long term goals for the upcoming year are.  Put them in writing.  A goal not written is a goal not achieved.  Once you have your goals, now it is time to make the resolution to get there!

I have been working on mine for several weeks now.  It is never easy nor should it be done at the drop of a hat.  Once you have your goals, publish them, let the world know.  It helps keeping yourself accountable when other people know what you are setting out to achieve.  Post them here if you like if you have no other means!  I will post mine once I have them complete!

Have a great day everyone!
