Rest Days and why I HATE them

So today was a rest day 😦  After 4 consecutive days of running and strength training, we had a planned rest day.  Let me preface this by saying I/We absolutely needed this rest day.  I know, only 4 days and only 8.6 miles…but this is 4 more days of consecutive running and 8.6 miles more than what we have done in probably 2 years.  So we needed it.  But, I HATED it!

You can ask Amy, I have always hated rest days.  Mentally I always thought I was going to regress if I didn’t get my speed work in, or my hill work, or a nice 15 mile tempo run.  I have always known the value of the rest day.  All of need time to let our bodies heal.  We need the time to just take a down day and let our bodies recover from the stresses we are putting it under.  Regardless of if you are just starting out or if you are an elite runner, we all need these days.  We don’t have to like them but we need them.

So, today was ours and it was not enjoyable.  I really wanted to get my run in.  Tomorrow is a new day though and I can’t wait to get back out there and put one foot in front of the other.  Until then….
